Could have been better
Nice home like place. Good people. Exelent sound.
This place is the best. Handlebar J is a big part of Phoenix history. The Herndon Brothers Band has been playing there for a long time and they are the best. The band rocks , the food is great.....this place is, again , is the best!!!!
This club is a definite gem in Victoria. It's got a comfortable, old school vibe and it fits up to 300 people, I believe. The sound system is not the greatest, but because it is such a small venue you don't have to fill very much space. This may change as the ownership changes however. The owners are really nice, and don't ask for a huge cut. Small green room area behind the stage if needed. This may change as the ownership changes however. You need to do your own advertising if you are unknown and want to bring in a crowd. Easy people to work with, and they love to have up-and-coming artists.
This club has a good vibe, good food, and great beer. It pays poorly to OK, usually around $50 a person (plus dinner and free drinks). The main advantage of this place is that they're willing to book a band on a regular basis, so it's a good spot to develop an audience, work out the kinks from a band, etc. It's pretty small, crowded, hot, mostly with a groove/dance vibe. Maybe the most annoying part is bands need to leave a space for customers to get through to the bathroom. Still, overall, a fun place to play.
The time we played they had problems with the electricity and we had a constant brown out, we only charged $200 1/2 price + tips and were given free meals and yet at the end of the night we were told we owed a $20 gratuity fee witch were all of our tips.
